‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’

Birch Class have been reading ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ by Roald Dahl and completing lots of writing and reading tasks linked to this story. Last week we also read a section of Macbeth where the witches were making a magical potion. We decided we would like to make our own potion so we followed some instructions to make our very own marvellous medicine. We were amazed when the liquid started to bubble and spill over the top of the cups!

‘London’s Burning’

The children in Birch Class have been learning about The Great Fire of London in our History lessons. They have created timelines to show the main events of the Great Fire of London and were amazed to find out that less than ten people died even though the fire lasted for almost five days and so much of the city around Pudding Lane was destroyed by the fire. The children found out about why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly. They learnt that the weather was windy and it was very hot and dry – this meant the fire spread quickly. They also learnt that Tudor houses were very close together and were made of wood, which also made the fire spread quickly. The children thoroughly enjoyed making their own Tudor houses. They used black strips of paper to make their houses look more realistic and to show what the wooden beams might have looked like.
