Ash Class are learning all about the Vikings in History. They were lucky enough to be visited by a ‘real-life’ Viking – Erik Eriksson. He taught the class all about the origin of Viking names, marriages, family life and clothing. He explained the difference between boys’ and girls’ clothing and the expectations, including the punishments for dressing incorrectly! The children also now know why men wore long tunics (ask them). Everyone had the opportunity to explore the many artefacts and ask questions about the items. Many children chose to try the clothing or helmets on and feel how heavy the swords and shields are. The day ended with a trial demonstrating crime and punishment during the Viking period. It was an immersive experience which brought the curriculum to life within our classroom.
