This week, Year 3 had a fantastic time in their Science lesson where they were exploring and investigating shadows as part of their ‘Light’ unit of work. Using shadow puppets, their task was to investigate which materials were opaque and discover how this influenced the shadows’ clarity and size.

After testing their predictions, they rated each material based on its effectiveness for shadow-making. To their surprise, some children found that reflective materials, which they expected to create more prominent shadows, didn’t work as they had imagined! This led to some great discussions and a deeper understanding of how light interacts with different surfaces.
